New to Sea Moss? Read This First
Our product is raw, naturally ocean-grown Eucheuma spinosum, also known as Eucheuma denticulatum, harvested from the coastal waters of Tanzania and naturally sun-dried.
Because this is a natural ocean product, you may notice a natural ocean or slightly fishy smell, natural sea salt, variations in color, and occasionally small pieces of rock or other natural ocean debris attached. We do not add salt, artificial colors or preservatives.
Before using, rinse the sea moss thoroughly and soak it until soft with lemon or lime. It can then be eaten as soaked sea moss, blended into gel, or used in recipes.
If you have a medical condition, take medication, or are considering sea moss for a specific health concern, please speak with your doctor or qualified healthcare professional. We are not medically trained and cannot advise you about medical conditions, medications, treatments, or whether sea moss is suitable for your individual health needs.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does sea moss really grow on rocks?
Yes. Our Eucheuma spinosum, also known scientifically as Eucheuma denticulatum, naturally grows in the ocean and attaches itself to rocks and other hard surfaces using structures called holdfasts. This is where the name Sea Moss From The Rocks comes from.
What species of sea moss do you sell?
We sell Eucheuma spinosum, scientifically known as Eucheuma denticulatum. This is the species used for our Purple Mix Sea Moss and our Gold Sea Moss.
Is your sea moss wildcrafted or farmed on ropes?
Our sea moss is wildcrafted and naturally ocean-grown. It is harvested from its natural marine environment rather than being grown on farming ropes.
Why are there sometimes small pieces of rock or ocean debris attached?
This species naturally attaches itself to rocky surfaces in the ocean. Small pieces of rock or natural ocean debris can occasionally remain attached after harvesting and drying. Rinse the sea moss thoroughly before preparing it.
Where does your sea moss come from?
Our sea moss comes from the coastal waters of Tanzania, where it is hand-harvested and naturally sun-dried.
Is your sea moss pool-grown?
No. Our sea moss is naturally ocean-grown and never pool-grown.
Do you add salt to your sea moss?
No. We do not add salt. Our sea moss is harvested directly from the ocean and naturally sun-dried, so some natural sea salt may remain on it after drying. Rinse thoroughly before soaking and preparing.
Does sea moss have a fishy smell?
Raw Eucheuma spinosum can have a natural ocean or slightly fishy smell. Because our sea moss comes from its natural ocean environment and is sun-dried, this is normal. Thorough rinsing and soaking with lemon or lime will usually reduce the natural ocean smell before use.
Why does the color vary?
Natural sea moss can vary in color. Our Purple Mix may contain different natural shades because it is a naturally harvested product, not a manufactured product made to look identical from bag to bag.
Do you add preservatives or artificial colors?
No. We do not add preservatives, artificial colors or unnecessary additives.
How do I prepare the sea moss?
Rinse it thoroughly to remove natural salt, sand or ocean debris. Soak it in clean water for several hours with lemon or lime until soft, then blend until smooth to make sea moss gel.
Can I eat the sea moss after soaking it?
Yes. After thoroughly rinsing and soaking the sea moss until it becomes soft, it can be eaten as is without cooking. It can also be blended into gel or used in recipes.
Do I need to boil the sea moss?
No. Our Eucheuma spinosum does not need to be boiled before use. Rinse it thoroughly and soak it until soft. Boiling or blanching is optional depending on how you choose to prepare it.
How can I use sea moss gel?
Sea moss gel can be added to smoothies, drinks, teas, soups, oatmeal and other recipes. It may also be used in skin and hair-care routines.
Can I use sea moss gel on my face?
Yes. Gel made from our Eucheuma spinosum can be applied to the skin as a facial mask. Apply a thin layer to clean skin, leave it on for a short period, then rinse off with water. If you have sensitive skin, test a small area first.
How many jars of gel can I make from a 4 oz bag?
A 4 oz bag can make approximately 4–5 16 oz jars of sea moss gel, depending on how thick you prefer your gel and how much water you use when blending.
How long does dried sea moss last?
When properly stored in a cool, dry place and kept away from moisture, our sun-dried Eucheuma spinosum can last up to 2 years.
Is the sea moss already cleaned when I receive it?
It is prepared for sale, but because it is a natural raw ocean product, always rinse and clean it thoroughly before soaking and using it.
What does sun-dried mean?
After harvesting, the sea moss is naturally dried in the sun rather than being heavily processed. This helps keep it close to its natural raw form.
Do you ship directly from Tanzania to each customer?
No. Our sea moss is sourced from Tanzania, and customer orders are shipped from our inventory in the United States.
How long does shipping take?
Orders are normally processed within 1 business day, with typical U.S. delivery taking approximately 3–5 business days.
Is shipping free?
Yes. Free U.S. shipping is included.
What if I have a medical condition or take medication?
We are not doctors or medically trained professionals, so we cannot advise you about medical conditions, medications, treatments, or whether sea moss is appropriate for your personal health situation. Please speak with your doctor or qualified healthcare professional for medical advice.
Can I buy sea moss in bulk or wholesale?
